Step 1: Downloading the latest Gadget Trial update patch

The latest patch (gt_update0718 at the time of writing) is available here.

Select one of the servers below to begin your download.

Please note that the English translation patch will not work until you have installed the update!

Step 2: Changing your regional settings to support Japanese

If you haven't already done so, you'll need to ensure that your operating system has support for Japanese.

2000
Control Panel → Regional Options → General Tab → Language settings → Japanese

XP/2003
Control Panel → Regional and Language Options → Languages → Supplemental Language Support → Install files for East Asian languages

After this, you'll need to set the default non-unicode language to Japanese:

Control Panel → Regional and Language Settings → Advanced → Language for non-unicode programs → Japanese

Step 3: Installing the game

a) Insert the Gadget Trial DVD into your drive. The installation should begin automatically. If it does not, double click on the DVD drive icon in Windows explorer to engage the autoplay.

b) Click the second button from the left (次へ(N)>) on the bottom to continue with the installation.

c) Use the button on the top right (変更(C)) if you wish to install in a different directory to the default one. When you're done, click on the second button from the left (次へ(N)>) on the bottom to continue with the installation.

d) Click on the second button from the left (インストール(I)) on the bottom to continue with the installation.

e) After the installer has finished copying the files to your computer, it will ask you whether you want to run the program immediately. You'll need to install the patch first, so uncheck this box before clicking the second button from the left (完了(F)) on the bottom to finish installation.

Step 4: Installing the patch

a) Run the update you downloaded in Step 1 to extract the gadgett.exe file. Copy-paste it into the game directory and overwrite the existing gadgett.exe.

b) Run the English Patch installer downloaded from this site and follow the instructions.

c) You've now finished patching Gadget Trial.
